Kennya, a proud first-generation entrepreneur inspired by her parents' legacy, founded our shop with a desire to bring something truly unique to Bear, Delaware. Not just another ice cream shop, Antojería Tonantzin is a vibrant celebration of Mexican and Hispanic heritage. We offer a colorful variety of snacks that surprise, delight, and invite everyone to explore new flavors.
The name Tonantzin is deeply meaningful and personal. It was the name her father wanted to give her, though her grandmother ultimately chose 'Kennya.' Still, the name remained close to her heart. In Aztec tradition, Tonantzin is an honorific title meaning 'Our Revered Mother'—a figure symbolizing the earth and fertility. This revered cultural figure is historically connected to Our Lady of Guadalupe, whose feast day is celebrated on December 12th. This date is also Kennya's birthday. That powerful, layered connection inspired us to choose the name for our shop, embodying the spirit of warmth, care, and Mexican heritage we bring to every treat.
